Sneak Peek

Krohe
Want to see the preliminary cover sketch for the Siren's Curse in Beyond The Gate?

Ship_01

The Siren's Curse is a ship that has been sailing the seas since the first sea filled. It has elements of several eras in seafaring history. I am in love.

It's got a ways to go yet--like the Curse actually sails ABOVE the sea on a nefarious sort of mist. The mast head is a wise old mermaid (my tattoo, below) not a dolphin. We're going back and forth right now, and it's soooooo exciting.

The tattoo is quite a few years old now. It was the beginning of a whole mural that now takes up most of my skin from the knee down!

It's--as Jesse says--only a concept sketch. I cannot WAIT to see what comes next. Thanks!

Oh my goodness, golly gosh and wow! I LOVE that ship. I've always had a passion for old timer sailing ships. We have a Harbour Festival in my hometown every year, and there are always original and replica sailing ships in display in the dock. Something about them makes me well up. Maybe I was a ship's captain in a past life. Or maybe a ship's figurehead ...

My artist took inspiration from ships all through history, from Egyptian pleasure barges to Norse warships and all the way through the "pirate ships" we imagine most prominently. There's a little of everything, since the Siren's Curse has been around so long, and would have been repaired and repaired over the course of forever. That was HIS idea. I just told him it was a pirate ship that sailed above the sea on a spooky sort of mist. :)

If you were a pirate queen in a past life, or even a woman passing herself off as a cabin boy, I think Beyond the Gate and The Shadows One Walks might resound for you. Teehee!

I love the sound of Siren's Curse, and BYTG and SOW will definitely be going on my wishlist :O)

I look forward to seeing the final cover art.
