Fur-Face: No Spoilers

I was prepared to like it. How could I not? Jon Gibbs (jongibbs ) LJ friend and all around awesome guy wrote it. I did not expect to love it as much as I did. The language, the characters, the story itself. I don't read middle grade books these days. I used to, when I was the book lady at my kids' elementary school, but that was ages ago. I forgot how hard it is to get a whole, child-believable story across without making it adult-level complicated. Jon succeeds, and he does so with seeming ease--though I think he'd probably disagree. Best of all, the story leaves off with a satisfying conclusion, while still leaving plenty of open threads for more. I have a feeling we'll all be seeing more of Snowy, Billy, Carmen, Aggie and the Eustons in the future. Thank goodness!

I did expect to laugh. Jon's a funny guy. I didn't expect to bawl my eyes out. I promised no spoilers, so I won't say why. Likeable characters, parents that weren't total dufuses, the best cat I've read since Crookshanks (yes, I know he wasn't really a true cat!), Fur-Face was a great read.

Thanks, Jon! And sorry, Snowy still sounds like John Oliver to me. And contrarywise, I won't be able to watch The Daily Show without remembering Snowy.

he might disagree with the ease part,
but not the seeming...

anyway,
if you can post a review on amazon,
I, for one, would be glad you did...

and is it possible to borrow an ebook?

If I can get OS 10.5 on my mac,
I can download the free kindle.
$2.99 is not out of my price range.

I can't loan out a Kindle ebook. But if you download the free Kindle for PC or Mac app, you can then buy the Kindle book (it's only $2.99) and read it on you laptop/netbook/whatever. Go here for the free download page.

You can also simply buy it as a download. That's what I did.

I only have 10.4
and I've had this laptop for four years,
so I'm not sure if I can/should upgrade.

I'll ask around.

Is there a kindle download that would work on windows vista?

I bought an acer aspire two years ago at WalMart at 8:25 am
One of those door-buster loss leaders.

So far as I know the Kindle for PC app works on Vista. I haven't heard any complaints about it not working. It's a free app, and once you have it, you can also take advantage of free public domain books in the Kindle store. as well as buying Jon's excellent book.

I so much want to read it!
I love funny middle grades and read loads of them because I happen to have a 10 y.o. daugher who is a huge fan of MG. So... guess the next book I'll buy her and read myself too? :)

We are reading one of the Baby Sitter Club right now and she keeps surpring me of the new vocabulary she learns each day (she doesn't speak English as a first language but 3rd!).

That's fantastic! Keep her going, and make sure she is still using all three languages into her teens. You do that, she will NEVER forget!

He *is* a funny guy. The way he stares at you while fondling his knife and licking his lips. Just cracks me up, sometimes.
